Luz Perpetua



A small monument erected in 1938 by explosives experts of the XV International Brigade during the Battle of the Ebro in honor of their fallen comrades allows artist Taxio Ardanaz to reflect upon the concretion of memory in monuments. As he explains: “combining historical research and a visit to this monument erected during the Spanish Civil War, I developed pictorial, sculptural and photographic works that focus on this and other memorial constructions as the physical and esthetic formalization of sentiments and values that are difficult to approach and represent in our current context, in which the ideological and moral conditions surrounding their construction have disappeared.
